Another day, another midfielder playing in Scandinavia rumored to be targeted by New York City FC. Yesterday it was Danish midfielder Jeppe Andersen, today it’s Ghanaian midfielder Ebenezer Ofori.
Ofori is a 21 year old defensive midfielder currently playing at AIK Stockholm. He has made just over 100 appearances with the senior club since arriving in 2013 and has become a fixture in their lineup. He is under contract with the Swedish side through the end of 2017.
According to a report from Ghana Soccer Net, NYCFC is one of several teams vying for Ofori’s services. The report lists the LA Galaxy, Hamburg, FC Krasnodar, Osmanlispor, West Ham, Cannes and FC Lorient among the suitors for the 21 year old midfielder. A second report in Football365 claimed Caen, Lorient, Hamburg, Krasnodar and West Ham were interested but made no mention of any MLS club.

Following the initial reports, Sweedish news outlet Fotboll Skanalen reached out to the Sporting Director of AIK Björn Wesström who denied any foreign interest in him.
“We have a great interest in him, but we have no concrete bid to take a position” said AIK Director Wesström who added he doesn’t know of any club interested in him.
“We have started (contract) extension discussions with him, as we did last season. The discussion is ongoing, and both he and we are positive in it. Then we’ll see where it ends up.” says Wesström.
At the present time it seems Wesström is playing Scrooge to the rumor that Ebenezer is headed to MLS. Should any new updates arrive, we’ll have them for you here.
