NYCFC Release Pre-Season Roster: Diskerud and Saunders missing; 16-year-old Academy prospect Sands makes the trip

NYCFC released their 2017 pre-season roster this afternoon after the team arrived in Jacksonville, Florida to begin their preparations for the 2017 season. Veteran goal keeper Josh Saunders, who was handed a multi-year contract extension in December of 2015 was noticeably absent. Also conspicuously absent is Mix Diskerud, whose exclusion comes at no surprise as we reported earlier today that he was not with the team en route to Florida.

 

Report: NYCFC Set To Sign Center Back Alexander Callens

According to a report from Peruvian outlet Ovacion, Alexander Callens is set to join New York City FC. According to the report Alex Callens’s signing is pending his medical with the team. Callens recently worked with CD Numancia, of the Spanish second division, to have his contract terminated because he wanted to play in the United States. Update January 27th New York City FC announce the signing of Alexander Callens, pending receipt of his P-1 visa and ITC.

 

NYCFC Trade Josh Saunders To Orlando City

NYCFC have announced that Josh Saunders has been sent to Orlando City in exchange for Orlando’s fourth round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. The 35 year old Saunders will be reunited with former coach Jason Kreis who relied on the veteran in New York City FC’s inaugural season.

 

Queens Borough President Open To Soccer Stadium In Willets Point

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz gave her State of the Borough speech today and mentioned the possibility of building a soccer or hockey stadium in Willets Point. New York City has long been looking to develop Willets Point, or the Iron Triangle as it’s known. Recent proposals have centered around a mall and shopping center along with hotels and housing in Citi Field’s parking long with housing in Willets Point coming after environmental cleanup of the area.

Report: Alexander Ring Set To Join NYCFC

According to local German newspaper Die Rheinpfalz, Alexander Ring of 1. FC Kaiserslautern is set to join New York City FC. Ring is a 25 year old Finnish central midfielder with 42 appearances for the national team, his current contract is set to expire this summer. Ring has played 94 games in Germany’s second division with FCK, starting 66 of those games.
