Ghanaian midfielder Ebenezer Ofori, who was previously linked to New York City FC, has turned down an offer from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa. Ofori’s agent confirmed to Expressen that Ebenezer’s club AIK “had advanced negotiations with a club but Ebenezer Ofori has chosen to say no.” AIK and Maccabi Haifa had reached an agreement for the club but the player himself did not want to make the move.
Ofori’s agent added that extending his stay at AIK was not out of the question, adding that he will sit down with AIK to negotiate a contract extension in February.
The latest reports out of Ghana state that Ofori has yet to open talks with any other team as he’s currently with Ghana preparing for the African Cup of Nations. The report also confirms NYCFC and LA Galaxy’s interest in the 21-year-old Ofori, adding that both the Galaxy and NYCFC have contacted AIK over the midfielder, with the Galaxy putting in a higher offer.
Ofori’s contract with AIK is set to expire at the end of 2017.
