May 30, 2017 – New York
According to French news outlet RMC Sport, current New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira is being courted by Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Étienne to fill their managerial vacancy.
Club chairmen Bernard Caiazzo & Roland Romeyer are said to have reached out to Patrick Vieira to gauge his interest in the opening. Both have recently met with former Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri and are keen in bringing in a well known name, however the report claims some different opinions between both Caiazzo and Romeyer.
Bernard Caiazzo is seen to favor a big name like Patrick Vieira with Roland Remeyer favoring his counterpart at Red Bull Salzburg, Oscar Garcia. According to the report, their disagreement stems from one faction wanting to bring in a big name to help lead the team and draw attention and the other wanting a coach whose salary requirements will not eat into the transfer budget too much.
ASSE are looking to fill their vacancy in the next two weeks, which wouldn’t give NYCFC much time to find a suitable replacement should Patrick Vieira be interested in the position. Patrick Vieira started his career in France, making his professional debut for Cannes before moving on to Milan and Arsenal.
