A late-night heartbreaker for City fans. one of those matches where it’s probably worth actually going to bed for work the next morning instead of falling asleep at your de—never mind…This week’s AfterFacts after match day 19, we look into the 2-3 away defeat in BC Place against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Quite a short list, but still worth talking about.

Vancouver vs NYCFC

1. To give an example, New York City FC fans probably know now how Columbus Crew fans feel after City first defeated The Crew. This was the Whitecaps’ first victory over NYCFC. The 2W-0D-1L record, however, is still in favor of NYC.

2. NYC defender Maxime Chanot ties fellow defender Alexander Callens with most goals by an NYCFC defender, scoring his second goal in Vancouver.

3. David Villa stands at four goals against Vancouver. He scored two in 2016, and one from the spot, like this year, in 2015.

4. City concedes their second goal in the final 15 minutes this season. The first was a New England Revolution equalizer at home. (sigh)

5. Only four players from the September 26, 2015 match remain in the club in 2017. Those players are David Villa, Andrea Pirlo, RJ Allen, and Khiry Shelton. Villa, Pirlo, and Allen started both matches. Shelton came on for Ned Grabavoy (shout-out to everyone who remembers that guy!) in the 75th minute. (Shelton did not play this time due to injury.) Speaking of that match, that was during the time of the season when City won three straight for the second time. But The Blues ended up losing the next three and being eliminated from playoff contention. Look at how far this club has come!

Fans should not be too upset at this match, considering the clubs massive improvement. But on the other side of the break, NYCFC faces the league’s current second-best Toronto right before and right after the league’s current best Chicago, and then Red Bulls and LA. While it will be a challenging string of matches, it will also be a test of character. But for now, we take in some Gold Cup matches, and wait for the first meeting with Toronto.

I didn’t fall asleep at my desk the next day, of course not!
