According to Newsday’s Jim Baumbach, who has been covering the developments at Belmont since the story broke, the New York Islanders will be granted rights to build their stadium at Belmont Race Track by the New York State EDS and NYCFC’s proposal will be rejected.
NYCFC had entered a proposal for the land when the request for proposals was put out by the state and was one the only remaining competing bidder for the land.
NYCFC have been playing at Yankee Stadium since their 2015 season and have not made any public progress on a soccer specific stadium. Their problems were compounded this year when the club was forced to play two regular-season matches away from home, the first in East Hartford, Connecticut and the second at CitiField in Queens.
The official announcement is slated for Wednesday at 11pm ET with Governor Andrew Cuomo expected to be on hand for the announcement. This story will be updated as details emerge.
